You just get a bit of stick, push it in the ground & it grows! With careful selection of the best varieties and correct planting you get masses of lovely long straight wands of vivid, shiny, textured willows – and some with catkins too!
I harvest the willows every winter and use them to add colour & a certain twigginess to winter bouquets, to make Christmas wreaths, lots of other seasonal decorations (hearts, circles, nests, stars) and even plant supports & baskets. What a fantastic plant. I’m a bit obsessed. I will be running workshops based on using willows in Christmas decorations, in November or December .
